ActionSA has proposed a voluntary one-year programme of public vocational service for all South Africans who are turning 18.
The party believes that the government should have a direct role in reducing the high rate of youth unemployment that exists in South Africa.
This and many other policies will be debated and voted on during the party’s three-day inaugural policy conference – which started on Tuesday – taking place at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
According to ActionSA’s draft policy document, the party believes that the government has a huge role to play in addressing the social ills facing the country.
The party proposed a universal basic income, the expansion of the social welfare grants, and a one-year of voluntary vocation service for school leavers.
ActionSA President Herman Mashaba noted that there are many young people who left high school with no prospects of studying further or finding a job.
“This reality is true for too many young people and ActionSA must provide young people with the place to learn skills, gain experience, and drive the meaning that comes with work and productivity.”
Other issues expected to be debated and voted on are healthcare, foreign policy, economic justice, law and order as well as climate and environment.
