AA calls for urgent intervention in VIP Unit assault

The Automobile Association has described the assault of civilians by Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s Protection Unit as a lack of rule of law.
The AA’s Layton Beard says an internal investigation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) will not be enough.
They are calling for swift action and transparency, saying this matter should be brought before the court.
“The spokesperson for the Ministry of Police was saying that internal processes at the SAPS will be used to deal with this, well for us that is not good enough,” said Beard.
“I mean this is something that needs to be dealt with in the open, these people need to face a court and it needs to be open to the public so that we can see that justice is being done.”
