No case until victims speak, says IPID on VIP Unit assault

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says they’re in the process of trying to get statements from the victims of the highway assault case.
IPID says it has no case until the victims speak up.
Members of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s protection unit were caught on video brutally assaulting civilians.
“They are not supposed to be conducting themselves in that way. They are supposed to be protectors,” said IPID’s Robbie Raburabu.
“Still trying to get statements from the victims, military trainees. Investigators are trying to convince them to open up cases.
“We don’t have details on what led to the incident. Without them, we won’t have an investigation,” he said.
