Mom and son found dead, very bad smell and flies rock the house

North West police have launched a manhunt after Emily Mashabela (48) and her 10-year-old son, Thabiso, were found dead at their home in Letlhabile, near Brits on Friday, 25 February.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani, the brother of the victim was allegedly called by the neighbours, who told him there was a terrible smell coming from the house and that there were a lot of flies around it.

“The victim’s brother then phoned the police, who went to the house. The half-n@ked body of Emily was found lying on the couch, while Thabiso’s body was found in his room,” said Funani.

She said at this stage the police cannot confirm the cause or the motive of the killings.

“Investigations into the matter are underway. The police request anyone who may have information that can help in the investigation to contact investigating officer Captain Tokkie Du Plessis on 082 575 8228,” said Funani.
