Taxi industry pleads with private business to use their services

The South African National Taxi Council is calling on the government to urge companies to use public taxis to ferry essential workers. Santaco said employers should not be allowed to use other transport companies.
Ralph Jones from the JSSTA said taxi associations are doing their best to comply with the government-mandated regulations but are concerned to see companies hiring outside transportation services to shuttle essential workers. Jones said the taxi industry is being undermined and the leadership of the associations are not representing the interests of the workers.
He said should government and private business not respond to diplomacy, the taxi industry would have to take action. Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday
