Unstable coalition governments will lead to more chaos: Analyst

Political Analyst Professor Ntsikelelo Breakfast says voters are going to continue suffering with poor service delivery due to unstable coalition governments. This comes amid a war of words between the ANC and DA following the ousting of Cilliers Brink as Tshwane Mayor.
The DA has warned the ANC to return Brink to the mayorship or the party won’t entertain any talks of ensuring stability in other hung metros ahead of the 2026 municipal elections. However, the ANC in Gauteng has accused the DA of wanting to sow divisions in the province.
Breakfast argues that the arrangements of the Government of National Unity only apply to national government.
“This arrangement I think they have little to do with rendering services, promoting development for the majority. They strike me as having to do with musical chairs, benefitting the political elite. I think also there’s a need when closing the gaps of these coalition arrangements to also include the voters. It can’t be that voters only vote then after that they back-off when these governments are constituted. That is not right. Because what is democracy? Is government of the people by the people and for the people.
