Gauteng MEC Lesufi apologises for unplaced pupils

Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, is apologizing to parents whose children are not yet placed.

Almost 700 pupils don’t have a school to go to.

Lesufi says the department is working to resolve the issue.

“As we join other provinces in resuming this year’s academic year, there are some parents who are supposed to be at work but they are at home, taking care of children that we could not conclude to place or children that still need to get a school,” he said.

“And on behalf of the department, I don’t want only to apologize but I want to reassure parents that last year around this time we had almost 35,000 learners that were unplaced, fortunately, this year we are left with almost 700 learners that still need to be placed.”

Schools in inland provinces reopened on Wednesday.
