The former bodyguard of slain rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes is among those arrested for the University of Fort Hare graft case.
Anwar Khan is among those who were nabbed at the weekend amid ongoing investigations into an alleged tender corruption syndicate that cost the institution millions of rands.
Khan appeared at the Dimbaza Magistrates Court on Tuesday, along with several others who were arrested in four provinces on Sunday.
Khan was arrested by members of the KwaZulu-Natal political task team and flown to the Eastern Cape during the Easter weekend.
He is among 14 others facing charges of racketeering, fraud and corruption.
Khan’s company is believed to have been contracted by the university to provide VIP protection for certain officials.
He is a prominent Durban businessman who has provided VIP security for the likes of Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar and various other international stars.
Last week, he protected AKA’s father, Tony Forbes, at the Durban Magistrates Court where five men appeared in connection with the artist’s 2023 murder.
The Fort Hare matter has been rolled over to Wednesday for formal bail applications.
