Battlelines have been drawn, and the trust deficit is widening between public-sector unions and the government.
Public sector trade unions lambasted the government for broken collective bargaining agreements.
Unions affiliated to South Africa’s biggest federations Cosatu and Fedusa held a media briefing in Pretoria on Friday.
They say they will embark on a ‘passive protest’, during lunch hour.
“They have been reckless, clumsy. They are declaring war and the war is on the way,” said Cosatu First Deputy President, Mike Shingange.
Unions are accusing the government of reneging on the collective bargaining deal.
Fedusa is calling for harsh punishment for those who have been dipping into the COVID-19 relief fund.
“Those who have been looting must change their suits to orange overalls at Kgosi Mampuru prison,” said Fedusa’s Lufuno Mulaudzi.
Both federations say their members will from Monday, embark on a nationwide passive protest against what they call an uncaring and provocative government.
