Unions call on SARS to revise wage offer

A wage strike by South African Revenue Service workers has forced the closure of around 40 branches.

Nehawu and the Public Servants Association are calling for the revenue collector to come back to the negotiating table with an offer higher than 1.39 percent. The unions say the strike will continue indefinitely if their demands aren’t met.

The PSA and Nehawu began striking in May, demanding increases of around 12 percent. SARS meanwhile says it doesn’t have the funds for this. It is urging the public to continue making use of its digital services.
