Official unemployment rate rises

The official unemployment rate has risen to 34.4 percent between April and June from 32.6 percent.
This means 7.8 million people are unemployed.
Under the expanded definition — which included discouraged workers — the unemployment rate is 42.6 percent, meaning 11.9 million people are jobless.
The Eastern Cape recorded the highest official and expanded unemployment rates.
Limpopo and the Northern Cape have more than 15,0 percentage points difference between their expanded and official unemployment rates.
There were about 54 000 less people employed in Q2:2021 than Q1:2021.
