Unemployment rate remains unchanged
The unemployment rate remains unchanged in South Africa. Statistician-General, Risenga Maluleke released the results on Tuesday.
Last year the unemployment rate rose to 29.1-percent, the highest in 11-years.
“The results further indicate that the number of employed persons increased by 45 000 to 16,4-million and the number of unemployed persons decreased by 8,000 to 6,7-million in Q4: 2019 compared to Q3: 2019, resulting in an increase of 38,000 in the labour force,” said Maluleke.
Employment increased in two sectors, with the formal sector recording the largest increase.
Agriculture was the second sector.
The #unemployment rate among the youth is higher irrespective of education level.

Approximately 3,3 million (32,0%) out of 10,3 million young people aged 15-24 years were not in #employment, education or training (NEET).
