Unemployed Soweto residents drop off CVs at Joburg Mayor’s offices

Dozens of unemployed Soweto residents have gathered outside Joburg Mayor Dada Morero’s offices to hand over their CVs.

Earlier in the week, in response to language barriers when migrants are arrested in the metro, Morero suggested that documented migrants should be employed to help clamp down on criminality.

The mayor has since retracted this proposal and apologized.

Braamfontein is abuzz with unemployed hopefuls who say all they want are job opportunities.

Hundreds of CVs are plonked into three large boxes with a dozen staplers made available to all those who need to combine their documents.

Welcomed by Mayor Morero’s chief of staff Tsumbo Nephawe, the unemployed hopefuls were told they would not be addressed by Morero.

“The most senior person in office now come here not to say anything on behalf because I am here simply to receive,” said Nephawu.

Awaiting Morero’s answer, the unemployed hopefuls now return to a life of uncertainty.
