Dozens of qualified individuals in the law enforcement sector have handed over their CVs to officials at the police department’s headquarters, hoping to be prioritized for employment opportunities.
The protestors hold degrees in policing, criminology, forensic technology, and criminal justice but are still unemployed.
Unemployed law enforcement graduates picketed outside SAPS’ headquarters on Thursday, raising placards and copies of their qualifications.
They had hoped to hand over their list of demands to either the police minister or the national commissioner but were instead addressed by the head of human resources.
Mashudu Phalanndwa, a 34-year-old graduate with a national diploma in policing, said that the police service should prioritize qualified individuals for positions in law enforcement agencies.
“We are qualified, we’ve got the knowledge. All we want is for them to up-skill us since they say we’ve got no experience.”
The protesters have agreed to meet with police officials in the next 14 days to discuss their concerns.
