Idols SA judge, Unathi Nkayi supports DJ Cleo over Miss SA ‘R30 hair cut’ remark

Unathi asks DJ Cleo to forgive those who misunderstood comments.
Media personality and Idols SA judge Unathi Nkayi-Msengana has expressed that people who are offended by DJ Cleo’s post about Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi winning the pageant with a R30 hair cut have missed the point.
DJ Cleo came under fire after posting about the new Miss SA on his Instagram page:
“A girl with a R30 haircut won the Miss SA pageant against R5 000 weaves/wig. I simply love this natural look. Zozibini Tunzi is a true ambassador for African beauty,” he posted.
He added that it shows that such a beautiful woman doesn’t need these hair extensions and congratulated the reigning queen.
“No wigs or weaves for SA’s most beautiful lady. Congratulations Zozibini! Proudly South African,” he wrote.
He then added, “If @zozitunzi is not an inspiration to all young girls then andizi #TheShallowWillMissThePoint”
his didn’t sit well with some fans who felt that he was shaming women who decide to wear weaves.
“What does hair have to do with anything? She certainly didn’t win because of her hair. She won because of a whole lot of other attributes which are now being reduced to a “R30 haircut” give her a bit more credit, and noooo we’re not missing the point,” one user commented on the picture.
Despite the backlash, Unathi agreed with DJ Cleo’s sentiments.
“As you said the shallow shall miss your point. Forgive them,” she wrote in the comments.
Since her crowning, Zozibini’s hair has been a topic of discussion.
“This day finally came! Natural African hair under that Miss SA crown and heading to the world stage. You are breathtaking! @zozitunzi CONGRATULATIONS! #MissSA,” broadcaster Azania Masoka tweeted.
