6,000 civil servants submit illegal claims of TERS fraud
Educators and healthcare workers have been the biggest defrauders of the UIF’s Temporary Employee Relief Scheme, known as TERS.
This has been revealed in an investigation of over 6,000 civil servants who submitted claims of over R350-million, despite earning their salaries.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has also found seven UIF officials colluded on TERS awareness campaigns, costing the fund over R6-million. In most cases, the SIU says the fraudsters are acknowledging their wrongdoing and paying back the money.
