Two children drown while kayaking in Plettenberg Bay

Two children have drowned in the Nature’s Valley Lagoon at Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape. The National Sea Rescue Institute says they are aged eight and ten.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says they received reports of a drowning in progress involving three children who got into trouble while in their kayak. He says one of the children managed to get out of the water and raise the alarm.
“On arrival on the scene a child was located and recovered from the water. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were commenced but after all efforts to resuscitate the child were exhausted. Sadly he was declared deceased. NSRI Natures Valley Coastwatcher’s were instrumental in quickly evaluating and directing responding resources while assisting on the scene. During a search the second child was located and recovered from the water but sadly the child was declared deceased.
