They are as thick as thieves. They wear the same clothes every day and they cannot go a day without seeing each other.
Idols SA season 9 contestants, twins Neliswa and Anele Mxakaza, are now learning to live different lives while still remaining close.
Neliswa recently announced on social media that she is expecting her first baby with cameraman fiancé Sandile Makhubela.
“I can’t wait to be a mom. It’s always been my dream to start my own family,” Neliswa said.
“My baby gets to have two mothers.”
Sandile and Neliswa have been together for six years and met at the beginning of her music career.
“My sister and I were very young when I met Sandile. But he has been beside me and has been very supportive through the years,” she says.
Sandile proposed to Neliswa in 2020 and sent a letter for lobola negotiations to her family.
“The lobola is out of the way. We are working on setting up a wedding day for next year.”
While Neliswa will be a wife and mom, the sisterhood bond with Anele will remain.
“We are always together, and we will still be together, not much will change. We still plan to wear the same clothes and make music together.”
Anele was the first person to suspect she might be pregnant when she started getting morning sickness.
“I found out when I was two months, but my sister was already suspecting because I was always feeling sick and morning sickness made her suspicious.”
The twins are working on a new album due for release in 2022 after Neliswa gives birth to her baby boy.
“We have been working on new music and we cannot wait for people to hear our growth.”
Their careers began in 2013 when they won the hearts of South Africans on Idols. But things took a sudden turn after they joined the Jesus Dominion International Church lead by pastor Timothy Omotoso.
The Nigerian televangelist and co-accused Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho faced 97 charges, including rape, human trafficking and racketeering, with 47 witnesses and the twins testified against them.
Among other young girls from the church such as Cheryl Zondi who gave a graphic testimony about her rape ordeal, Anele and Neliswa also spoke openly about being victims of abuse while at the church.
Despite a traumatic experience at the church, the sisters say they have put the horrific past behind them and they wish to forget it all.
“We just want to focus on or music and motherhood,” Neliswa says.
