City of Tshwane placed under administration

The Gauteng government has placed the City of Tshwane under administration. Tshwane doesn’t have a mayor, mayoral committee or city manager. The council has been dissolved and fresh elections will be held in 90 days.
The Gauteng Executive Council said an administrator will be appointed to run the municipality in the meantime. Gauteng Premier David Makhura said government is confident their decision will pass the legality test and that they are not scared of threats of court action.
“We won’t be blackmailed into inaction,” he said. The ANC has proposed the creation of a unity government in Tshwane to save the city from collapse.
But the DA says Gauteng Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Lebogang Maile should take action against the ANC and EFF for walking out of a council meeting last Friday. The DA says it won’t be long before residents feel the impact of the failed council sittings.
