Late jazz singer Tsepo Tshola’s funeral put on hold

The funeral service of late jazz singer, Tsepo Tshola has been postponed to next week Friday 30 July.
The Lesotho-born musician, who died last Thursday 15 July due to covid-19 complications at the age of 68, was supposed to be buried today, 23 July, at Thaba-Bosiu Heroes’ Acre in Lesotho.
Speaking to Daily Sun, family spokeswoman Lintle Lerotholi said the reason of the postponement was because the iconic musician would be given a state funeral by the Lesotho government.
“Because of this, it would not have been possible to bury him today as there are still a lot of arrangements that need to be made,” she said.
Asked how the family was holding up, Lintle said they were trying to remain strong as Tsepo’s passing had cut them deep.
“It is a heavy road ahead of us, but we are strengthened by the support that we have received from the public, his colleagues and the government. We are thankful for the support and the messages of condolences. It is really comforting to learn about the impact that Tsepo has had in people’s lives,” she said.
On Thursday 22 July, friends, family and industry colleagues bid farewell to the iconic singer at a memorial service that was held at the Joburg Theatre.
Speaking at the memorial service, singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka described the iconic singer as someone she could always lean on.
“He was always there to guide and shape me. As you know this industry that we are in can be very harsh. I considered him as a brother, a very close one,” she said.
“I remember when we became close, it was before the horrific accident that took some of Sankomota’s band members. Before it all happened, they were rehearsing from my house. We are going miss him,” said Chaka Chaka.
She said the world loved Tshola and he loved the world.
“Your music taught us who we are as Africans. You did say you are waiting for your name to be called and your name has been called. And those of us who are left behind are shaking in disbelief. Greet Steve Kekana, Pat Shange and Brenda Fassie and tell them we miss them,” she said.
