Truck Driver killed after horse ploughs over bridge

KwaZulu-Natal: At 17H43 Monday afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to a collision on the N3 at the Cliffdale Bridge in Peacevale, Durban West Region.

Reports indicate that the driver of a foreign truck lost control on the downhill, slamming into the bridge, resulting in the front cab with the driver being torn from the trailer, coming to rest on a river bank some twenty meters down.

When medics arrived on the scene, the cab was inspected, however, the driver, an adult showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased at the scene.

On the scene were the Road Traffic Inspectorate, START Rescue, South African Police Services, and the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services.

Rescue crews were forced to use hydraulic tools to free the driver from the wreckage.

Once the body was removed from the mangled remains, a rope rescue system was set up to bring the deceased up to the roadside. Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
