Masterminds behind last week’s riots could face charges for threatening democracy – such as terrorism, sedition, and treason.
The National Prosecuting Authority says it won’t hesitate to take action against those who encouraged the damaging and looting of malls.
The prosecution of at least five high-profile cases has already begun.
But as Parliament heard on Wednesday, the country’s overcrowded prisons are bearing the brunt of the added strain on the justice system in effecting these prosecutions.
