Leadership vacuum at Transnet

President of the United National Transport Union, Steve Leshabana is calling on the government to deal with theft and vandalism of rail infrastructure.
He said the challenges facing Transnet won’t go away if these issues are not dealt with.
Leshabana said, “you can appoint anyone if the government is not intervening on the issue of theft and vandalism on the railway tracks.”
“We believe that on the operational level, it was not about the capacity of [the] group CEO.”
“The cycle time for the train has become double.”
“If we don’t deal with the main issues which is corruption, vandalism, and theft we are not going to solve the problem.”
“The government must intervene they must come up with ways to secure the rail infrastructure so that it makes it easier for those who are managing the system.”
