Committee to hold special hearing on cash-in-transit heists

The Portfolio Committee on Police will on Friday held a special hearing on the spike of cash-in-transit heists.
The move follows Thursday’s brazen heist in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.
Attackers blew up two security vehicles, making off with an unknown some of the money.
Several suspects were later arrested in Jeppe.
Committee chairperson, Francois Beukman, says it’s unacceptable that heists are becoming the norm.
He’s urging police management to strengthen the Crime Intelligence and Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation units to deal with the upsurge.
Private security companies, Business Against Crime and other major stakeholders, have been invited to attend the special hearing in Parliament.
