Traffic brought to standstill as truck crashes into trees: Pictures

The accident brought traffic to near halt, as emergency workers, battled for two hours to free a trapped passenger. The IPSS helicopter was also used in the rescue.
One person was severely injured when a truck crashed into trees on the N2 southbound, just after the Higginson Highway, on Friday afternoon.
SAPS Search and Rescue, the eThekwini Fire department and paramedic teams Rescue Care and IPSS freed the passenger who was stuck in the truck.
Garrith Jamieson, of Rescue Care, said: “A truck left the roadway and collided into trees at the side of the road. The truck was carrying a driver and a passenger. The passenger was severely entrapped.
“The Durban fire department used the jaws of life to rescue the passenger. The driver sustained moderate injuries, and the passenger was freed after more than two hours, with severe injuries. He is being stabilised and taken to the nearest hospital.”
IPSS brought in their Black Eagle aeromedical helicopter to assist in transporting the injured passenger to the hospital.
