Patricia De Lille: We must prioritize tourist safety

The rising crime rate continues to be a concern in the country. Tourism Minister Patricia De Lille said they want to ensure that tourists feel safe and welcome.

She says her department will be working with different stakeholders to ensure our country’s reputation is not tarnished by crimes against tourists.

She said, “we are working together to make sure our tourists return home safely.”

“Otherwise, another change that has come is that when a tourist gets attacked here (in South Africa) and we help the tourist to lay a case with the police… when the case finally comes to our court, the tourist must travel all the way back from the Uk or Belgium, that’s no longer the case.”

“We now have got an agreement with NPA that tourist can go to any South African embassy in the world or in their lawyer’s office and it will be done virtually.”
