EFF leader Julius Malema has warned Cyril Ramaphosa that, unless the president comes clean, his links to Bosasa may cost him his presidency. Malema was one of several opposition parties who slammed Ramaphosa over Bosasa in Parliament. DA leader Mmusi Maimane also called for a parliamentary committee to investigate the matter.
They were referring to the R500 000 paid to Ramaphosa’s campaign for the ANC leadership position, allegedly by former Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson.
This payment is also the subject of an investigation by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane. Maimane insisted that a parliamentary committee be established. He said that Ramaphosa should share his version of events with this committee. Malema was even more fiery in his condemnation of Ramaphosa. “If you’re going to come across as being a constitutional delinquent, we’d be left with no option but to engage in an impeachment process against you,” the EFF leader said, according to Eyewitness News.
These opposition politicians made their remarks during a join sitting in the National Assembly to debate Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address,
In addition to the Bosasa issue, several MPs also slammed the president’s speech for not containing any new plans. Both Maimane and Malema criticised the president’s plans regarding transport, with Maimane rejecting Ramaphosa’s proposal to build more trains.
