Booking my very first role was an amazing experience. It was incredibly exciting. I felt grateful and blessed because I understood that it could’ve gone to anyone, but I got it. I was very aware of that, and it felt like a blessing because they thought I was the perfect person to portray the character. My family was very happy, and it felt very good.

I’m lucky enough to do what I love with people that I love; that makes my on-screen experiences the best, all the time. Every single day is good because I’m doing what I love, and I do it with people who make it very enjoyable. There are so many moments, but, I love it because I work with my friends. A lot of the people I work with are individuals that I enjoy being around on a personal level.

My favourite scene so far, was the wedding. As little girls we always look forward to the day we’ll get married. And, even though it was Nonka’s wedding day and not mine, it was nice to get a small glimpse of what it is like. From the floral arrangement, to the wedding dress, and everything else – it was absolute bliss.

My favourite wardrobe moment on the show cannot really be boxed into a single day; Nonka’s style is hers alone. But, recently, she attended a funeral; she wore a nice black dress with a little beaded cardigan, and that was a very cute outfit.

If I had to describe my time on Uzalo and in the industry in general thus far, I’d say that it’s been an eye-opener. There’s always something new to learn about different parts of the industry, and about myself and Nonka; that’s the best part of it.

I look forward to what’s to come. I hope people are going to love the content that we’ve managed to come up, and the stuff that we’ve been able to shoot, considering that we’ve been off-screen for so long.

It might be close to three years since his passing, but Dumi Masilela’s memory still lives on thanks to an artist who has created a mural in honour of the late actor.

Dumi was shot in an attempted hijacking in Tembisa in 2017, leaving many South Africans feeling they had been robbed of a multi-talented person. Read more…..
