Connie Ferguson, then Masilo, was born on 10 June 1970 in Lobatse, Botswana but was raised in South Africa. She grew up to become one of the most iconic faces in South African media.
Connie Ferguson’s Career
Connie’s main claim to fame is her leading role on the soapie Generations. She played the role of Karabo from 1994, she announced in 2010 that she would be leaving the show. She later re-joined the cast in 2014 after the soapie was revamped into Generations: The Legacy then left again in 2017. Both she and her character remained a fan favourite throughout her run.
Connie has also appeared in a ton of advertisements as a celebrity brand ambassador. In 1990 and 1991, she did an Ellerines campaign, she did Ultramel Custard campaigns 1992 and 1995, Vaseline’s campaign in 1992 and Black Like Me in 1998.
In 2008, Connie became the first South African woman to release her own fragrance, “True Self”. That same year, she was announced as the face of Garnier beauty products.
In 2013, she competed in the 6th season of reality competition show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ on SABC 3. In 2014, she launched her lotion range, “Connie”. It is available in grocery stores across South Africa, Botswana Namibia.
In 2011, Connie and her husband, Shona Ferguson, launched their production company, Furgeson Films. The company has produced multiple hit series for Mzansi Magic, which includes Rockville, iGazi, The Gift, The Throne, The Herd, The Queen and The Imposter. The couple often acts in their own productions, for example, Connie played the role of Mavis Mabaso on Rockville and is the female lead in The Queen.
Connie Ferguson’s Awards
Connie was voted one of South Africa ‘s Ten Most Beautiful Women in 1993 by Cosmopolitan Magazine. She also won a PAWE Young Artist Award in 1998. Connie received a Recognition Award and certificate of Excellence from the South African Foundation for Excellence and Achievement in 1998.
In 2018, she was honoured at Glamour South Africa’s annual Woman of the Year gala for her outstanding contribution to the local media industry.
Connie Ferguson’s Husband
Connie’s first husband was another fellow actor and Skeem Saam director, Neo Matsunyane. The couple has one child together: daughter, Lesedi.
In 2011, she married her 2nd husband, Aaron “Shona” Ferguson. The couple has a daughter together, Alicia, and raised Connie’s daughter from her first marriage together.
