Temporary shelter for Alexandra residents after fire destroys their homes

Temporary accommodation will be given to dozens of Alexandra residents who lost their homes in a shack fire on Thursday. Johannesburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo announced this during a walkabout of the area, while assessing the damage.
Alexandra residents are trying to rebuild after a fire gutted more than 50 homes. Families say they have lost everything.
Makhubo is promising residents they’ll be given temporary shelter while the Social Development Department will help them with official documents.
Residents will sleep in a hall on Friday night, while waiting for further help.
