Manhunt launched for gang after Tembisa cash-in-transit heist attempt

Police continue their manhunt for a gang who blew up a G4S armoured van during an attempted cash-in-transit heist in Tembisa on Wednesday.
One suspect was taken to Tembisa Hospital after being injured in the explosion and remains under police guard.
Police recovered a rifle, ammunition and two getaway vehicles used by the perpetrators.
It is understood a cash-in-transit heist gang abandoned their attempts rob an armoured G4S van in Esselen Park, Tembisa after one of their own was injured while setting off explosives to blow up the van and access the money.
However, their attempts proved futile as the safe remained intact, despite the armoured vehicle being blown up.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said: “Police responded swiftly, and the suspects fled the scene without taking any cash. One of the suspects was found on the scene and taken to the medical centre after he sustained injuries. He is under police guard.”
He said that a Mercedes-Benz found abandoned by the suspects was reported to have been hijacked in Bedfordview.
Police continue their search for the suspects who fled the scene.
