Soccer star Teko Modise opens up about his R2 000 salary & being left with R200 after bills
South African soccer star Teko Modise revealed to SuperSport earlier this month that he used to get paid R2 000 before tax at his first professional club, Ria Stars.
The soccer star Teko Modise added that he was living with Abednigo Netshiozwi at the time and was paying R600 for accommodation and a cellphone contract with his R2000 salary and he was left with R200 after paying all his expenses.
The former Bafana Bafana superstar is also giving advice to young and upcoming soccer stars via his position as one of the Nedbank Cup ambassadors, reports Sunday World.
Modise, who lived a flashy life when he was still a top player in the PSL also revealed that he used to spend R50 000 on sneakers and owned four cars.
“I downgraded my lifestyle, and by that, I mean I scaled down on what I was spending. I got a smaller apartment, I sold three of the four cars I had and instead of blowing R50 000 on sneakers, I would just get one pair.”
He also explains through the Nedbank Cup ambassador programme that people began gossiping about him when he downgraded and said he no longer had money, and as a result had just one friend left.
“That’s why I was able to adjust to moving to Cape Town City – what I earned there compared to my salary at Mamelodi Sundowns was chalk and cheese.
