The main purpose of the job is to manage the technical service functions, maintain an effective integrated management system spanning, process control, product quality, procurement initiatives and packaging. In addition, this role will provide technical support to operations in the form of: Research, Development and Implementation of technology related to new and modified products and processes for the Snacks division.
The position of Technical Manager reports functionally to the site Operation Executive and has dotted reporting line to the Technical Executive for specific technical inputs.

Snack Processing and Operational support
Work closely with the Operations and Quality departments to ensure product is made to the highest quality standards
Manage process and product improvement projects
Hands on support and involvement in the day to day operations at the Rosslyn plant
Provide continuous feedback to the Engineering department in order to identify areas for improvement within the processing lines
Support the project team in the scoping, development and commissioning of CAPEX projects
Develop new and modified products
Support and run projects within the NPD agenda for the site
Conduct literature surveys on process, ingredients and acts and regulations for the purpose of developing or optimizing analytical methods, processes and products
Brief suppliers on new analytical instruments, product, packaging and raw material requirements.
Manage and report trial costs
Statistically analyse experimental data
Publish trial reports
Develop, and validate product and process assessment methods
Ensure bills of materials and process specifications are kept up to date
Develop new SOP’s and update existing product and process SOP’s
Develop new SOP’s and update existing NPD process SOP’s
Review product specifications and propose amendments
Conduct post launch reviews
Participate in GMP and HACCP initiatives
Participate in optimization and CAPEX projects run by factory
Management of Technical Department
To manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets
Plan and manage departmental activities in accordance with agreed timescales
To liaise with other functional/departmental managers so as to understand all necessary aspects and needs of technical development, and to ensure they are fully informed of operational objectives, purposes and achievements
Responsible for hygiene and safety in the pilot plant and work station
Ensure equipment is clean, operational, serviced and calibrated

A minimum of 5 years in a similar role (NPD / R&D / Technical) within FMCG preferably with exposure of Snack manufacturing and/or manufacturing of starch based goods
A completed Food Sciences degree essential
Postgraduate qualification (Honours / Masters) will be highly advantageous
