Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda said more work needs to be done to address the lawlessness that has taken over in the city following a shooting of three people at a charity event.
Rand Water official Teboho Joala was killed while the City’s Chief Whip Sthembiso Zungu was wounded after unknown gunmen opened fire at the Zakariyaa Community Hall on Monday.
This incident took place during a shoe donation drive in the south of Johannesburg where over 70 learners were witness to the alleged hit.
Gwamanda said there is a need for a partnership between the city and police to deal with this criminality.
“We need to be collaborative in our approach and not overburden certain functions to certain spheres of government. We need to collaborate so that we can efficiently and effectively respond to such issues.”
Gwamanda said the chief whip was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and is recovering well.
