Talks to end taxi strike continue

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis is hoping for an end to the crippling taxi strike soon.

The city has been engaging taxi bosses since the week-long stay-away began a few days ago.

Taxi operators are upset over the impounding of minibus taxis in the Mother City.

They say they are being targeted and arrests and seizures are done brutally.

The strike has led to the torching of at least six Golden Arrow buses which rolled in to transport people.

Health services have also been affected with an ambulance torched and facilities targeted.

Western Cape Education says the strike kept nearly 300,000 pupils out of school on Friday.
