SAFTU and the Qina National Public Transport Workers Association are seeking the formalization of taxi drivers and other staff within the taxi industry.
SAFTU general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says if the Employment and Labour Department does not give them feedback by Tuesday, they will take legal action.
Vavi says that the department are not protecting the taxi drivers as well as the taxi marshalls.
“We are not taking the taxi associations to court,” says Vavi.
“We are taking the department that has a legal responsibility to protect workers to court,” he adds.
