Thabo Mbeki sends condolences to tavern victims’ families

Former president Thabo Mbeki has sent his condolences to the families of the 21 young people who died at the Enyobeni tavern in East London.

The tavern has now been shut down by authorities.

Mbeki was speaking during a visit by the Drakensberg Boys choir to his home as part of his 80th birthday celebration.

“The death of these young people, I do not know what they were doing at the tavern and the way they have died,”‘ he said.

“I do not know how they have died but very tragic event and I am sure all of us want to convey condolence to parents and relatives and so on.”
