Losing uMvoti won’t deter it from 2024’s goal of taking back KZN, says IFP

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KwaZulu-Natal said losing the uMvoti Local Municipality would not deter it from its goal to govern the province after the 2024 general elections.

On Wednesday, the party lost the municipality to an African National Congress (ANC) and Abantu Batho Congress (ABC) coalition.

IFP provincial chairperson Thami Ntuli said the IFP was not shaken by the coalition.

He said either way, his party is what the voters want – referring to the 2021 local polls where the IFP showed significant growth in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

“We know [what happened] is against the will of the people of uMvoti. The people of uMvoti have rejected both the ANC and the ABC.”

Last week, the IFP won a ward from the ANC in uMvoti.

The party said Wednesday’s council results would not stop it from running the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) government as a whole in 2024.
