She’s known for doing whatever it takes to put food on the table. Zodwa Libram, Zodwa Wabantu to her fans, just turned 35 and she still has no time for people’s opinions about her life.
She proved it when she posted about making money ‘n@ked’ and just how much that money has changed her life.
Speaking to Drum she said she’s not losing any sleep over people’s opinions of her.
She’s faced plenty of criticism, and it’s reared up again now that the country is on level 1 and she’s out and about.
The greatest joy for her is being able to provide for the 14-year-old son. “I am happy I can take care of him. 14 years ago, his granny (on his dad’s side) raised him and did everything for him.
“I would give him money I got from men just to also do something for my son. Being able to send money and take care of my family is most important to me. I care less about what people will say,” she adds.
“I just told myself that I am not going to focus on the bad energy, I will just do me.”
People are embarrassed about their hustle and jobs. They do not need to be. “With what I do, I saw an opportunity that God gave me and capitalised on it,” she says.
Zodwa has previously shared how hard things where for her while growing up. From a young age, she had to learn how to fend for herself.
“You are on your own in life. If you look around, no one does anything for you when you are going through a rough patch. You go through it all alone. People’s houses and cars are repossessed with people around them, and those who can afford to help don’t,” Zodwa says.
“Five years ago, I would ask God if I will I die poor like the rest of my family because we have never had anyone do well.”
Now she’s living her best life. Before being ‘booked and busy’ at parties, Zodwa says she used to sleep with men and expect to be given money.
“When I was sleeping with men, I expected money in the morning. Now that has changed, I am a provider I don’t need to beg anyone for money,” she adds.
“What I am trying to say or teach is, whatever you do for a living – be it a pr0stitute or any job, you know your reasons, beliefs, and values. Your work does not define who you are,” she adds.
Zodwa says she always gets DMs from people asking for help, but she says from what she has seen and read, people are just lazy to think and to do something with their lives.
While naysayers are judging her for her choices, she says she is putting food on the table.
“I am becoming more and more dangerous. I am doing more and wanting more, she says.
The Durban based celebrity says she has a salon opening on the cards where she will sell her products, petroleum jelly, perfume, and make-up.
