SAPS: Motive for killing of EFF candidate councillor still unknown
Police say they’re still trying to establish the motive behind the killing of EFF candidate councillor Thulani Tshangase.
Police Minister Bheki Cele says the matter may have been alcohol-related, but the case has been escalated to the task team for political crimes for a quicker response.
Tshangase was shot dead in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday as he was returning from an EFF campaign meeting.
Cele visited Tshangase’s family as well as the scene of his killing.
He said, “where he was killed, we know that they were taking some drinks, that includes the other two people that were killed. So we do need to take a look at this issue that alcohol sometimes can be really a generator of crime situations like this one where we lost lives.”
