Steve Komphela wins PSL awards for August

The pair has been rewarded in recognition of Celtic’s fine start to the campaign, which has yielded four victories and one draw. Bloemfontein Celtic mentor Steve Komphela and defender Alfred Ndengane have won the PSL’s coach and player of the month awards for August.

Komphela took charge of the side in the off-season, having been pressured to resign at Kaizer Chiefs in April just before his three-year contract at Amakhosi was due to expire following a fan rampage at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The former Maritzburg United tactician has bounced back with his new employers despite the club’s financial troubles and uncertainty surrounding its prospective sale.

Meanwhile, the experienced Ndengane has been a key figure in Siwelele’s miserly rearguard, helping the team register four clean sheets.

Phunya Sele Sele is joint-top of the Absa Premiership standings with 13 points, with Bidvest Wits narrowly ahead on goal difference having played an extra match.
