Van Rooyen family oppose release of Station Strangler

The family of the late Elroy van Rooyen is opposing the release of his killer.

There is a possibility that the so-called ‘Station Strangler’ could soon be free.

Family representative Zorah Motasi says the family is not coping and that government is failing the Strand community in Cape Town.

Norman Afzal Simons was convicted in 1995 for his role in the kidnapping and murder of 10-year-old van Rooyen.

If he gets parole, Simons will spend the rest of his life within the confines of his home in Mitchells Plain.

According to his parole conditions, he will also be barred from communicating with the media.
