RIP: SA football legend Stanley ‘Screamer’ Tshabalala laid to rest

Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala has been laid to rest at the Westpark Cemetery on Thursday following his funeral service at the Grace Bible Church in Soweto.

The football legend died exactly a week ago after succumbing to injuries sustained during a house robbery earlier this year.

The overriding legacy left behind by football legend Tshabalala was best summarised by Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Moutaung.

“Good with love, passion and respect…”

Football’s biggest names including Pitso Mosimane, Patrice Motsepe, and SAFA president Danny Jordaan gathered to bid farewell to Tshabalala, along with Edward Motale and Doctor Khumalo, who both praised Bra Stan for his impact on their careers.

Tshabalala’s name is etched in the history books of Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

And as the sun sets on the life of the man who popularised Shoeshine and piano football, Sport Minister Gayton McKenzie had these parting words: “Great men plant trees with the full knowledge that they will never be able to sit in the shade of those trees.”
