Hlophe stands no chance, says Casac

Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe has gone to court to urgently stop President Cyril Ramaphosa from suspending him.

He also wants to block the National Assembly from going ahead with the impeachment process against him.

However, Lawson Naidoo from the Council for the advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac) says Hlope’s attempt is a long shot.

“He’s really throwing the kitchen sink at this one and hoping that along the way something will stick,” Naidoo said.

“It’s a desperate attempt. He’s really seeking to have a second bite at the cherry, and I would be very surprised if the court were to a grant him an audience and secondly for his application to be successful.”
