Paul Mashatile: We need to ensure we have stable coalitions

Deputy President Paul Mashatile says there is a serious need to address challenges at the local government level and to ensure that stable coalitions are built.
He was speaking at a two-day national dialogue on coalitions in Cape Town, which wrapped up on Saturday.
“We are quite focused at local government where we have more challenges and so the minister of COGTA is key because the dialogue itself felt that there is an urgency in addressing challenges at local government level,” he said.
“We will be definitely looking at how these engagements will allow us to go down to local government and see how we can ensure that we have stable coalitions that are focused on good governance and serving the people.”
Mashatile also says there are no plans for a coalition between the ANC and the Democratic Alliance.
