Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula’s bid to interdict her arrest struck off court roll

National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s application to interdict her arrest has been struck off the roll.

The Pretoria High Court said that Mapisa-Nqakula presented a weak argument to prevent her arrest.

Mapisa-Nqakula faces 12 counts of corruption and money laundering.

It’s alleged she received over R4.5 million in kickbacks from a contractor back when she was the defence minister.

Last Saturday, Mapisa-Nqakula’s lawyers filed an interdict to prevent her arrest, saying it would infringe on her dignity.

Judge Sulet Potterill said that Mapisa-Nqakula’s case was weak and not urgent.
