The personal safety and security of health workers and patients remain unaddressed, particularly for those working in the public sector. The South African Medical Association said it continuously hears of attacks. The association says it knows what needs to be done.
It is a huge problem and there needs to be better controlled at casualty level. We are asking for security gates to be put in,” said Dr Angelique Coetzee, the SAMA chairperson.
“We are asking for the casualties and the hospital administration to make sure that it’s only the patient, and maybe one more person to accompany the patient into the building because the more people there are, the more difficult it becomes to also control violent behaviour.
