Sophy Mukheli ( 48) and Willem Koekemoer (60) were introduced through a social group, while he was in Cape Town working for a few months. He saw her profile picture on WhatsApp and made contact with her. ” It was love at first sight for me. I can’t describe the butterflies in my stomach.” says Willem.
The two connected over the phone and decided to meet September 2018, she drove to go see him in Benoni and they have been inseparable ever since. ” When I saw him, I said to myself – there’s my husband.” recalls Sophy.
Interracial dating is not a big deal for Sophy, who has been dating outside of her race since her divorce in 2008, Willem was married for 30 years and has two sons from that marriage however his spouse passed on in 2008. They both believe they have found their soulmate in each other. ” Willem is caring, honest and I can see the love that he has for me.” says Sophy.
Willem loves that Sophy is honest, and she’s a straight talker who always motivates and brings out the best in him. “ It’s true when they say behind every successful man, is a good woman.” He says.
Willem has also recently reunited with his sister, who is just as smitten with Sophy as he is. The two had not seen each other for 40 years and now she gets to witness her brother walk down the aisle.” My sister is so in love with Sophy, I think they are in the same WhatsApp group.” Says Willem.
Willem proposed to Sophy on her birthday, making the day extra special for her! Her family was there, and she said yes. He has a great relationship with her son, and his own two sons are also supportive of the relationship.
People must get used to the fact that Tshivenḓa is one of official languages in SA, why dont you complain when she is speaking Tswana, Zulu, Sotho, and any other language #OurPerfectWedding

I love language diversity but we must be considerate of others around, it’s really not nice not hearing the conversation when you in the room #OurPerfectWedding

I think it’s insensitive to speak a different language when there are other people there that don’t speak it #OurPerfectWedding
