Full Job Description

The Division for Student Development and Support (SDS) plays a leading role in creating a holistically focused, enabling environment and provides excellent opportunities for students to develop to their full potential as active scholars and responsive citizens in South Africa.

Applications for the post of Social Worker, are invited from dynamic and vibrant individuals with demonstrated student housing experience within a tertiary institution, who have a quest for constant self-improvement and development and the growth and development of others. Applicants must be client-service orientated and passionate about supporting the organization’s strategic deliverables with regards to their students and their co-curriculum development and well-being.

The Successful Candidate will be Responsible for:

Provision of psychosocial support to students across residences
Reconciling of M&E information for and overall support to the Living-Learning Office
Administrative and process support to the ResLife Manager in respect of Community Standards Interventions
Submission of relevant reports in respect of KPA’s
Student assessment, process implementation and all related administration for the Skills Resource and Exchange Programme (SREP)
Student counseling (individual and group as required by the department and based on student need), and all related administration for the counselling component of the department.
Data analysis (where requested by the Living-Learning Coordinator)
Database maintenance for statistical purposes and reporting
Maintaining a counselling database
Processing of monthly claim sheets for DO’s and tutors
Using Social work principals in partnering on mediating conversations as part of Community Standards processes
Preparation of information for Living-Learning Reports

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Professional Qualifications:

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
SACSSP Registration
Highly advantageous if incumbent has at least 1 years’ experience working as a Social Worker
Sound theoretical understanding of principles, ethics and practices in the Social Work profession
Demonstrated experience working with young adults and community involvement in respect of programme design and implementation
Demonstrated ability to network across various support organisations
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be prepared to participate in shift availability after hours

Required competencies

Prior occupational experience must demonstrate successful background in decision making processes,
Excellent organizational skills
The ability to multi-task,
The ability to work with a diverse range of people,
The ability exercise discretion and independent judgement,
Good communication skills (both verbal & written)
Excellent interpersonal skills
