I don’t like being called a dwarf: Sinazo

Sinazo Vuntu (22) does not consider herself different just because she is shorter than everyone else.

And she does not like being called a dwarf.

Sinazo, from Mfuleni in Cape Town, said she was the only short person in her family.

“I asked my parents who I took after, and they said my father laughed at a dwarf and that person cried. That is why I am like this,” she said.

She said she can defend herself when she is bullied, but she is not proud of it.

“I once broke someone’s arm because I was fed up with being called names,” she said.

Sinazo said she is often bullied when she visits other areas.

“Boys ask for my number and when I refuse, they say they were just playing. But I’ve stopped getting worked up about it,” she said.

She said she would love to have a family of her own one day.

“My boyfriend is not short and I would love to have a child,” said Sinazo.

She said short people should not feel sorry for themselves as then they will become victims of abuse.

“People like me should not isolate themselves. They should attend community meetings and talk about the things that affect them.”

Her uncle Luthando Hedeni (56) said Sinalo was very talkative.

“She doesn’t get angry easily.”
